2012-12-07 - Hello World! & Washington Legalized!
This is it. The first entry to this "News Blog". The preliminary website is now complete and ready for the next phase of the plan. Next week we commence with reaching out to potential speakers, as well as continuing other development.Perhaps it should be mentioned here a couple of things about this website. People have already wondered why this website is being built with static html. Why, for example, is this "News Blog" rather plain? As with pretty much everything else being done with this site, this was a calculated decision. We anticipate that as we get nearer to the conference, particularly considering some satellite projects, that there should be a huge amount of traffic to this site. For this reason we have opted to stay away from database driven applications or content management solutions that may be heavy on server resources. In past experiences we have had servers crash on "launch day" due to the servers being unable to keep up with the demands. For this reason we are applying the KISS principle with a static html site.
On a separate note, we would like to use this "News Blog" as a way to share our thoughts, and to sprinkle some interesting articles & tips too, from time to time. So please feel free to come by to check out the news here periodically.
To get the ball rolling, we thought to start off with a celebration! Yesterday Washington State officially "legalized"! CNN and other news showed people in Seattle waiting for midnight, almost like it was New Years Eve. After the ten-to-one countdown, at the stroke of midnight there were cheers of joy for the incredibly historic moment, of pot finally being legalized in the States after so many decades of prohibition. Then there were the sounds of lighters being flicked, followed by odorous clouds we'd all enjoy getting second hand. Congratulations to all of you in Washington. Enjoy your well deserved freedom to boldly smoke at relative ease from the law.
But this precipitated some interesting thoughts. Thoughts worth thinking about next time you medicate. Yesterday, the historically significant day that it was, was also in fact the day that a snowball was nudged, metaphorically, down a very large snow covered mountain. There were reports of countless "pot parties" in Washington for the "New Years Eve" style event on the night of December 5th, but yesterday plenty of people were stoned, and surely this weekend the state will likely be well fogged. We've already seen on the news a comment reflecting what we expect to happen next. Plenty of people who otherwise would not have touch the weed are currently trying it with an open mind. Inevitably, after a handful of experiences, they will come to the conclusions that we've all been trying to tell them all along that pot isn't as bad as the propaganda would have us believe, that it's safer than alcohol, and the effects are better too. Next we anticipate thousands of people to start proclaiming, probably by next week, that their chronic aches and pains are miraculously improved. They will quickly realize how wonderful this medicine is for the common folk, not just those dying of cancer or some other exotic diseases. Then all of the above realizations will be spoken about, others will try, then those others will agree with the conclusions, they'll tell others, and this will continue to spread like a virus across America, and the world.
Folks, as of yesterday we have entered into a new stage of this "War". The United States has just lost. Sure, we haven't yet heard any response from Obama, which is somewhat surprising, but perhaps somewhat wise on his part too. We have perspectives about that, but we'll save those thoughts for a later blog post. But back to our snowball. So Americans just got their first taste of quasi-legal buds. They'll realize it is good. They'll tell others, and then they'll demand to have to same rights in their states as Washington has and Colorado will have soon. Here is the best part. Now the US is in a quagmire. Soon the whole US will want the same freedoms to cannabis; how can they say no if others have the right? Now if Obama somehow tries to take away the legal pot from Washington & Colorado then that would be political suicide as the citizens would be in an uproar about it.
The snowball has just started running down the hill, already getting bigger. By the time January rolls around and Colorado is legal the snowball will be a big boulder (like the pun for Colorado?). Pretty soon the ball will become some big and massive we don't believe that the US will be able to stop it. Friends, it is now inevitable. The next few years will certainly be interesting times... assuming of course the world doesn't implode in two weeks.
